Well, my good friend,Mr. Mihir Mulay in his blog "A literal confusion"...http://pencil-thoughts.blogspot.com denies the fact that there can be more than one "best friends".So this insists me to write my first blog in opposition to that, based on my personal experience.........
To start with ,I want to ask "how do you define "best friends"? He\she is such a person with whom your wavelength matches,is such a person you want to be wih,and open your heart to, who will guide you correctly, who will stand by you in times of need, who will encourage when you are low ,as also bring you down to earth when you are floating in the air of pride and last but not the least who knows you even better than yourself........
In a time span of 30 40 years if you see,[after you learn to understand and think rationally],you meet many people. Also the intensity of relationship increases or decreases. But still there is certain feeling that still remains.
To elaborate on this I would like to give an example. You have a best friend in school. After school eventhough you are not in touch with that person so much, the feelings are still the same.During that period you go on making new friends.... And amongst them you might find another good friend.. so good who can be your best friend also. So here "the superlative term" crosses its limitation or in other words its world expands...!
If you are lucky enough that you meet people matching your frequency, so now more and more good friends turning your best friends!!
No doubt, time span is a factor that decides the number of best friends that you make. But at the same time if you are rigid enough convincing yourself the fact that 'so n so is my best friend,' then you only close the door that will lead you to many good friends out of which some can be your best friends. Thus creating an exception for the so called "superlative term"in english language.
Maths theorems can have rules ,as also physics formulae. But the term "best" for the "many" friends can also surpass the grammar laws......!

its true but dosen't happen that easily. and grammar gets a shot quite often

well let me ask u a simple question, the answer of which might help u to solve the doubt yourself...

Suppose you and your "X" number of best friends (here we will consider X >1 so as to take into account many best friends) are travelling in a boat. The boat capsizes and u are the only one who can swim... and physically u have the option of saving only one of your best friends... Who would it be?

I think that might be a better way to say what I mean by "best friend".

Thanks Mihirtronics, for your valuable comment.
Your comment reminds me of Yudhishtira in Mahabharta'.Now I can understand what must be his condition while deciding 'which brother to bring back to life'......he he he .jokes apart....
But still I feel all the friends are good in their own way.And so their goodness can't be compared to judge who is the "best"! The situation ,at that point only will decide which friend to save........!!

Best at first u must know wat is best, secondly u must feel wat is best.
according to me, best can be only one,u seriously cant have BEST FRIENDS,then u are just lying to ur self, there are some friends who prove use ful to u at tht situation, doesnt mean tht he turns out ot be ur best friend, for being best u must have in it. now, those fairy tales, boat saving one..duh huh..give me some space, dont imagine, n just try to prove ur concept.
BEST is the one who knows u in n out, widout u saying something he knows there is something, Thts called BEST FRIEND, u dont need to open ur mouth, everything just happens wid just one sight, thts called best friend.
while writting this, i have one picture in my mind, thts y i am able to write this all..so got it..
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE BEST,REST all CAN be ur friends..

"will continue on it...i Wll be BAck.."

the title "best friend" itself is misleading i guess. why do u have to bestow such a title to anyone at all.... is it because he/she feels great to get it?? why cant you just have lots of good/great awesome friends with whom you share thoughts/save life/ whtever....

Rahul,Goood Great, ahaa...goood is one great is one and infact the best is also one..got it...

see the thing is tht somethings are shared wid few n when i say few its only one..okk????

wats the use of sharing ur special thing wid everyone..as u say y cant u have great/ good friends..whn u share tht thing wid everyone it doesnt remain special at all...got it..??? so best is the one wid whom u can share hell some specail things..tht's y he is called best got it????

Its a fact that opinions differ as people differ. Also the interpretations are based on his\her own experience. As in my case ,my life's like an open book. So there's nothing like telling secrets to only a single friend!
I like to share my happiness with all the so called 'best friends'.For me all are equal n I am not partial with anyone!!Every friend of mine is good in his\her own way and inspire me to take in their qualities.
As far as the picture of the best friend is concerned, when I close my eyes, there is a group photograph that comes in my mind!!!
Finally i would conclude that, having best friend" with pure feelings,be it single or many ,its like "priceless possession"!!!!
